Despite the dip in VC funding across all industries, some startups still managed to score big cheques. In Europe, about 46 startups have received funding so far and we speculate more startups will be funded in the few days before the month ends.
The top takers for this month are Tissium, ANYbotics, Wingcopter, Sastrify, and Worldia, which got a total of €145 million in funding.
Paris-based medtech startup Tissium is the biggest taker in Europe with €50 million raised in a Series D funding round. Founded in 2013, Tissium hopes to solve one of the biggest challenges in medicine which is the reconstruction of damaged tissues with the help of its biomorphic programmable polymer.
Tissium plans to use all of its €50 million to bolster the company’s development plans and fund the commercialization of its first products in nerve and hernia repair and the extension of its pipeline of products and platform.
“With the closing of our Series D financing round, TISSIUM is well-positioned to finance the commercialization of its first products. This funding significantly bolsters our ability to move with speed toward our goal of enhancing tissue reconstruction for patients. We look forward to continuing our work to bring innovation in the space and develop products that make a difference in patients’ lives.” Christophe Bancel, CEO of TISSIUM
Swiss robotics pioneer ANYbotics is among the big takers this month after it secured €50 million series B funding. The leading investors were Walden Catalyst and NGP Capital.
ANYbotics has seen the demand for its robotic solutions in heavy industries surge as its robot platform ANYmal continues to build strong traction in the international market, with pre-orders and reservations up to the tune of €150 million.
The funding will be used to leverage the company’s recent success and drive growth in the international market by developing even more capabilities with the help of AI.
“This funding validates our unique approach to addressing fundamental challenges of operating complex industrial facilities. Our legged robots have already proven their value in increasing productivity and safety.”, says Dr. Péter Fankhauser, Co-Founder and CEO of ANYbotics.
German drone company Wingcopter will be ramping up production of its electric drone, the Wingcopter 198 model with EIB’s €40 million investment. Wingcopter has established itself as Europe’s leader and pioneer in unmanned delivery drone technology.
The company’s drones are already in use on small-scale commercial and humanitarian projects like the delivery of medical supplies to rural communities in Malawi. The fund is backed by InvestEU as part of a bigger agenda to reduce carbon footprint and facilitate the transition to a green and sustainable economy.
Sastrify and Worldia are among the big five takers in this month’s funding rounds. Both companies were able to secure Series B funding earmarked for global expansion. Fueling this move is the rise in demand for their services and increasing customer satisfaction.
Our hundreds of customers around the world have validated our platform as the comprehensive SaaS procurement solution. We’re positioned to grow our team, and continue to work with companies to focus and accelerate their efforts to reduce their risk, save hours per week, and save up to seven figures on their SaaS costs.
Sven Lackinger, CEO and co-founder at Sastrify
